Project Background
Aligning Artistry, Academia, and Institutional Governance
The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts operates as both a multi-school academic institution and a public-facing arts organisation. Its digital platform must support admissions, academic programmes, performance promotion, research communication, and institutional governance within a single ecosystem.
Over time, the site expanded into a large-scale content environment of more than 18,000 pages, managed by central administration, academic Schools, and non-academic departments. With distributed content ownership across units, the platform requires strong governance, consistency, and structural discipline.
Our partnership with HKAPA spans over a decade and two major redevelopment cycles. Following an award-recognised first-generation platform, the second-generation redevelopment introduced a complete visual redesign and an upgrade to the latest generation of CMSCore.
Beyond aesthetics, the transformation strengthened scalability and long-term sustainability — balancing artistic expression with institutional structure while maintaining coherence across the Academy’s digital ecosystem.
Our Approach
Multi-Site Platform Architecture
Designed and implemented a structured CMSCore multi-site environment comprising a mother site and individual School and departmental subsites, ensuring consistency in governance while preserving identity flexibility.
Stakeholder Alignment & Strategic Facilitation
Navigated diverse institutional perspectives — academic, administrative, and artistic — to establish shared digital principles and content standards across two generations of platform redevelopment.
Design Excellence with System Discipline
Delivered award-recognised interface design while simultaneously restructuring large-scale content architecture to support academic information, admissions, performances, and institutional communications.
Multi-Site Solution
One Brand, Distinct Identities
HKAPA operates as a unified institution comprising six Schools, each with its own artistic language, audience, and culture. The multi-site CMSCore architecture establishes a shared brand framework and governance model, while enabling individual Schools to express their identities through tailored visual themes, content structures, and storytelling approaches.
The main site anchors institutional positioning, admissions, and cross-school narratives, while School and departmental subsites retain creative flexibility within a consistent navigation and technical foundation. This approach preserves artistic diversity without compromising brand integrity, delivering a scalable digital ecosystem that balances expression with structural discipline.
